Sambadromo Parade Tickets

Many tourists will buy tickets from websites, such as:

I bought mine with Marcelo Zahar through Do Brazil Right.  I had absolutely no issues. He was prompt with his communication and 100% available for pick up.
I would 100% recommend him:

Through these sites, you will get a receipt/voucher, and pick up the tickets in person before the Carnaval.

Depending on which seat you select, you can pay anywhere from around $130 USD to $2,000 USD.  A good seat in section 8 allocated seats or section 10 general seating will cost you about $130.00

It has been suggested that you can buy tickets outside the Sambadromo, but it's a kind of seedy area (doesn't feel safe), and the characters I saw selling tickets also looked kind of shady (unreliable).  Of course this is all based on stereotypes.  I personally wouldn't risk it.

Carnaval in Rio is a great experience.  If you can afford it, put out the money and get tickets from a reliable source.  Pay a little extra get tickets for the first league nights.
I sat in both section 8 on a lower level of allocated seats where I could be close the parade...  I was assigned to section C, but I moved up to section A's empty seats for a number of hours, which was bordering the parade. I was being slapped in the face by the feathers of the costumes.  It was great to be so close to the performers and see their expressions and costumes so close up.

I also sat in section 10. On the first league nights, iy is a HUGE mistake to arrive shortly before it starts, or after.  It's general seating and it gets packed HOURS before.  If you are going to get general seating on a first league night, PLEASE PLEASE arrive 2-3 hours before and wait it out. Otherwise, you may not even get a seat. My friend made us one hour late and there was no where to sit.  There were people standing around and watching from that section.  I guess they oversell the tickets.

I would say the general seating was better because you could see the full scope of the floats and parade in all it's glory.
