Street Carnavals and Parades

During the Carnival, and even a week or so before, street parties will take place.

You could have a few things going on, street parties that include:
1. Live instruments
2. Live performance
3. DJ's

Be aware, these parties are frequented by individuals in their late teens to late twenties, half-dressed, cross-dressing males, or in what we would only see as Halloween costumes.

If you're outside of this age group, these street parties/carnivals may not be your thing.

You may gravitate more towards the 'Blocos'.   Like the Sambadrome hosts Samba schools who parade in the competition, local neighbourhoods have their own groups who will parade in their neighbourhood.   Timing and locations are posted online.  These can very to small parades, traditional parades, to huge parades.   Ask your hostel or hotel for their recommendation based on your interests.

You can ask your hotel/hostel to print out a current schedule of the Blocos for you if you'd like to check one or two out.
